Cookies
What are cookies?
(Source: Privacy Commission website)
Cookies are small text files that can be stored on your computer when visiting websites. This text file stores information such as your language preference for a website. When you visit the website again later, this cookie is sent back to the website. In this way, the website recognizes your browser and, for example, can remember your language preference.
Cookies usually also have an expiration date. Some cookies, for example, are automatically deleted when you close your browser (the so-called session cookie), while others remain on your computer for a longer period, sometimes even until you delete them manually (the so-called persistent cookie).
Why do we use cookies?
Websites use convenient and useful techniques that enhance usability and make the site as interesting as possible for every visitor. Well-known examples of these techniques are cookies and scripts (collectively referred to as "cookies"). Cookies can be used by website owners or third parties – such as advertisers – who communicate via the website you visit.
The use of cookies is safe. Personal information such as a phone number or email address cannot be derived from cookies. Therefore, cookies cannot be used for email and telemarketing purposes.
We find it very important that you know which cookies our website uses and for what purposes they are used. We want to safeguard both your privacy and the user-friendliness, as well as the funding of our website. Below, you will find more information about the cookies used by and via our website and their purposes.
What cookies are used on this website?
Functional
Functional cookies ensure that the website functions properly.
Our website uses cookies for:
- Passing information from one page to the next, for example, when a long survey is filled out or when a lot of data needs to be entered for an online order
- Storing preferences such as language, location, number of search results, etc.
Below is a list of cookies we use, the data they collect, and how long they are used.
Statistics
These are cookies that help us measure the use of the website. To determine which parts of the website are most interesting for our visitors, we continuously measure using third-party software, such as Google Analytics, how many visitors come to our website and what is most viewed.
The information we collect is used to create statistics. These statistics give us insight into how often our web pages are visited, where visitors spend the most time, etc. This allows us to make the structure, navigation, and content of the website as user-friendly as possible. The statistics and other reports are not linked to individuals.
We use cookies for:
- Tracking the number of visitors to our web pages
- Tracking the duration of time each visitor spends on our web pages
- Determining the order in which a visitor views the pages of our website
- Assessing which parts of our site need adjustment
- Optimizing the website
Social Media
These cookies are used to share the content of our website via social media.
Articles and videos you view on our website can be shared using social media buttons. The social media cookies from the respective social media parties enable recognition when you want to share an article or video.
These cookies make it possible for:
- Logged-in users of selected social media platforms to directly share content from our website
For the cookies placed by social media platforms and the potential data they collect, we refer to the statements these parties make on their own websites; see the links below. Note that these statements may change periodically, and Kovr has no influence on them.
Interests
These are cookies used for behavior-dependent content on a webpage.
Our goal is to provide visitors to our website with information that is as relevant as possible to them. Therefore, we try to customize our site as much as possible for each visitor. We do this not only through the content of our website but also through the ads that are shown.
To make these customizations, we try to form an image of your likely interests based on the websites you visit on the internet without building a person-identifiable profile. Based on these interests, we then adapt the content and advertisements on our website for different customer groups. For example, based on your browsing behavior, you might be categorized as 'men aged 30 to 45, married with children, and interested in football.' This group will then see different advertisements than the segment 'women aged 20 to 30, unmarried, and interested in travel.'
Third parties who place cookies through our website can also try to find your interests this way. In that case, the information about your current website visit may be combined with information from previous visits to other websites besides ours.
If such cookies are not used, this does not mean you will no longer see ads on our site. It simply means that the ads are no longer tailored to your interests.
These cookies make it possible to:
- Register your visit to the website to estimate your interests.
Other/Unexpected Cookies
Due to the way the internet and websites work, it may happen that we do not always have insight into the cookies placed by third parties via our website. This is especially the case if our web pages contain so-called embedded elements; these are texts, documents, images, or videos stored by another party but displayed on, in, or through our website.
If you come across cookies on this website that fall into this category and were not mentioned above, please let us know. Or contact the third party directly and ask which cookies they placed, the reason for it, the lifespan of the cookie, and how they safeguard your privacy.
How can I see which cookies are installed and how do I remove them?
If you do not want websites to place cookies on your computer, you can adjust your browser settings so that you receive a warning before cookies are placed. You can also adjust the settings to reject all cookies or just third-party cookies. Additionally, you can remove cookies that have already been placed. Keep in mind that you need to adjust these settings separately for each browser and computer you use.
Be aware that if you reject cookies, we can no longer guarantee that our website will function properly. Some features of the site may be lost or you may even be unable to view certain websites. Additionally, rejecting cookies does not mean you will no longer see ads. The ads will just no longer be tailored to your interests and will be shown more frequently.
How you adjust your settings varies by browser. If needed, consult the help function of your browser.
